Mason Baseley
It is very informative, rewarding and fun to check in with our past scholarship recipients. The interview, conducted over the phone with 2019 recipient Mason Baseley. She was all that!
Mason graduated in 2019 from Foothill High School. She and her twin sister, Morgan, really left their mark on Foothill all four years. Together they excelled in Cross Country and Track. They started a Trap Club, were featured in Field and Stream and set up a Facebook page called Two Girls Hunting. This was set up to promote the sport of shooting and hunting, encourage conservation and be positive role models for all youth, girls and boys, especially focusing on the benefits and joys of outdoor adventures.
After high school, Mason attended University Montana Western in Dillon, Montana. She graduated from college with a degree in Environmental Sustainability with a career goal as a Fisheries Biologist. This career would include working in local hatcheries, breeding fish, the maintaining of the growth and health of the fish and monitor streams and lakes to determine effective management plans. Mason's classes of course were varied but she did say that Hydrology, Soil Science and The Fishery classes were among her favorites.
Although her dream job has not been realized as of yet, Mason has been a very busy young lady. She has worked the past two summers doing seasonal work monitoring Aquatic Species all over Montana. In the meantime she is substitute teaching in Great Falls Montana and preparing for her wedding coming up in March. She and her fiance, Tallon, are avid turkey hunters and fly fishing enthusiasts. She has been active competing in trap shooting leagues. No stranger to trap competition, Mason competed in the State meet while in high school, shooting a 94 out of 100. She was awarded 1st place in the High School womens division and 6th place in the High School mens division.
Mason and Tallon have joined the Great Falls Committee for the National Turkey Federation. Using her love of all wildlife and her extensive education she is committed to helping the environment and being an active supporter of all wildlife conservation.

Morgan Baseley
It is not surprising that 2019 Scholarship recipient, Morgan Baseley, chose to attend University of Montana Western in Dillon Montana. This university, as stated in some of their literature, "emphasizes experimental learning combining theory and practice through projects and field experience". In other words, learn by doing. Morgan's initial goal after graduating from Foothill High School in 2019 was to attain a degree in Ecology with an emphasis in Fish and Wildlife. Because of her love of fishing and hunting having been fostered in our wonderful North State, she fit right into this remote area in Montana surrounded by amazing opportunities to learn by doing and enjoy her hobbies at the same time.
Morgan graduated from Foothill High School successful in both academics and sports. She continued this into college and excelled. Morgan competed on the University Cross Country team for all four years. She had two successful NAIA Championship appearances and also competed in the 1/2 marathon at the National Championships.
This past summer Morgan spent her time as a wild land fire fighter in New Mexico. Since completing her degree this past fall, she will start a new job with the Nature Conservancy as a Sagebrush Stewardship Technician and will be stationed in Dillon. This job position will allow her to work with the ARCGIS (Arial Mapping Computer System) using her education creating projects for conservation. She will also be participating in a Non-Profit program in Dillon called, Youth Employment Program. Her duties will be to design and facilitate conservation projects for high school students to work on and complete in the summer.
In her spare time in Dillon, Morgan will continue to hunt along with taking advantage of fishing on the Beaver Head River which is a premier fishing spot in the United States.
It is important to point out that this young lady has not wavered from her goals to be a steward of the land. We coaches are so proud to have had a small part in helping her achieve these goals through a great education. Congratulations to Morgan, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Retired Coaches volunteering for the College Connection sponsored, Kinder College Day at Simpson University on May 12, 2023. We cleaned up the goose droppings on the grass fields before all the 5-year old’s arrived.

Congratulations to the Fall River High School Bulldog Football Team
A small group of coaches from the RCA traveled to McArthur California on January 28th to meet and honor the CIF State Champion Division 7-AA football team and coaches. Head Football Coach Todd Sloat, the assistant coaches and the champion football team members were treated to a great spread of pizza from The Ol' Merc Pizza and Deli in McArthur.
It was so special to have the opportunity to visit with the young men and congratulate them on the first Shasta County football title in history. This team hosted Morro Bay on December 12, 2021 and prevailed with an overwhelming score of 43 to 13. To show our appreciation of the their outstanding accomplishment, the team members were presented with engraved football key chains and the coaches were given RCA ball caps. It was a pleasure to honor a great group of athletes.
University Preparatory School
The Nor-Cal Retired Coaches had the pleasure of honoring the 2021 CIF State Girls Volleyball Champions, the University Preparatory School Lady Panthers. We all enjoyed a pizza lunch at Mountain Mikes Pizza on Churn Creek and had the opportunity to meet the team and the coaches. We heard abut their experiences and the work they put in to reach their championship goal. Coach Tawni Kramer, named Coach-of-the-Year 202 gave us a summary of the season with the help of some of the team members regaling us with both the ups and downs, and ultimately their elation at winning.

Congratulations to our Star, Jet Thomas, with his performance as General Waverly in this year’s White Christmas held at the Axiom Repertory Theatre. You did a great job!

Where Are They Now
Jace Neugebauer
Hearing about the accomplishments of our past scholarship recipients is so rewarding. Jace Neugebauer, a 2016 Fall River High School graduate, is no exception. Jace played football as quarterback and linebacker, basketball and baseball for his high school. He was a very active member of FFA and Student Council.
Upon graduation, Jace was named a State of California FFA officer and therefore deferred his college for a year to perform his duties as part of a team of seven FFA officers. These seven officers represented California FFA and traveled the state from top to bottom. They visited many high school classrooms focusing on general agricultural knowledge and professional development. When asked what he learned from this great experience Jace said," you never know how much you can impact someone's life. Listening to all the different students throughout California, I have learned the value and power of listening which has given me a better perspective on life." During his year before entering college, Jace was also fortunate to attend the FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana and the Washington State FFA Conference.
Jace began his college tenure in the Fall of 2017, entering William Penn University in Oskoloosa, Iowa. He graduated in 2021 with a major in Business Management and minors in Economics and Communications. While in college, Jace interned with Musco Sports Lighting in Public Relations and Marketing. After graduation he secured a full-time position with Musco titled, Market Development Specialist. Musco Sports Lighting is the world's largest manufacturer of sports lighting from huge stadiums to local Little League fields. One of the company's philanthropic projects is providing, Safe Places to Play. Jace's job was to identify and work with non-profit and profit entities to partner with Musco to put up Mini-Pitch structures for soccer in under privileged communities.
Although very rewarding, Jace chose to leave Iowa to be closer to home and family especially his two Grandfathers. He has been working for an Ag Tech company in Fresno but has recently decided to put his efforts into Agricultural Real Estate in the Turlock area.
In his words, "I don't believe in taking a break". Jace is a highly motivated young man with the skills and drive to accomplish great things.
It is young people such as Jace that make our scholarship fund raising efforts so rewarding. We coaches are very proud to help the youth of the North State.
Mira Reginato
Mira Reginato, a West Valley High School graduate in 2018, was one of sixteen RCA Scholarship recipients. She competed in multiple sports for West Valley; volleyball, softball and golf. She has continued to golf while attending college, when time permits, and frequents both Tucker Oaks in Anderson and Wilcox Country Club in Red Bluff.
After graduating from West Valley, Mira attended Chico State and graduated in three years in May of 2021 with a degree in Agricultural Business and a Minor in Crop Science & Horticulture. This young lady was very motivated to complete her college stay early carrying 20 to 23 units each semester maintaining a very high GPA.
While attending Chico State, Mira worked at the USDA Farm Service Agency in Redding. Upon graduating from Chico, she was hired on full time with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation with the job title, Soil Conservationist. The job is very new to Mira and she is very invested in learning about all of the aspects of this position. In a nutshell, Mira will be helping local ranchers and farmers improve their natural resources on their properties through the Cost Share Program. She will help to determine what the concerns are and what the agency can do to help.
This motivated lady plans to spend quality time in her current job hoping to move up the ladder with a possibility of going into Loans for Agriculture with the Federal Government.
When asked what she'd like to do as a dream vacation, Mira's answer reflects her love of nature. She would like to plan a back-pack trip in Colorado or Montana, including hiking, fishing, wild life photography with time to get in a bit of golf.
Congratulations to a job well done. The RCA coaches salute Mira Reginato and know she will have a great future.
Erin Clendenen
Erin Clendenen graduated from West Valley High School in 2016 and was one of seventeen RCA scholarship recipients that year. At West Valley she competed in Softball and Rodeo. After graduation, Erin attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with the help of both the RCA Scholarship and a Rodeo Scholarship. While attending Cal Poly Erin, a member of the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association, competed in Breakaway Roping and in her Junior year won the Reserve Breakaway Champion on the Pro circuit. She was also named Rookie-of-the-Year. For those of us rodeo novices, Wikipedia describes breakaway roping as a variation of calf roping where a calf is roped, but not thrown and tied. It is a rodeo event that features a calf and one mounted rider. This talented young lady also competes in Barrel racing during the Fall season.
Erin graduated from Cal Poly in 2020 with a BA in Agricultural Communications and two Minors; Agricultural Business and Law and Society. She completed a Masters in 2021 in Agricultural Education. During her Masters year she was the Assistant Coach for the Cal Poly Rodeo team for men and women. She also was the academic coach for the Men's Wrestling team.
This Fall semester of 2021, Erin is working part-time at Simpson University teaching the on-line class, Digital Media. She will be on staff in a full time teaching position soon. Her title will be Communication and Media Relations Specialist.
It is very apparent that Erin is motivated to succeed in all of her endeavors. The RCA coaches feel so grateful to have been a part of helping Erin attain her higher educational goals.
Beau Forest
The Coaches, with our sponsor's help, are so privileged to reward outstanding North State student athletes. The Nor-Cal RCA Coaches focus on academics, sports participation and good character. We get the chance to meet great recipients each year and our 2016 scholarship recipient, Beau Forest, fits the bill. His career in school, elementary through college, has been exemplary. He exemplifies the character traits we admire in all our scholarship recipients. He has also excelled in golf, starting as a very young Junior Golfer with Grandpa Jack Connelly by his side, and continuing through both high school and college competition.
Beau attended Metter Elementary in Red Bluff and attended U-PREP for Jr. High and High School. Beau competed in Basketball and Golf for U-PREP, earning MVP awards in his Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. In 2016 he graduated with honors and went on to attend the University of the Pacific in Stockton and graduated in 2020 with a BA in Computer Science and a Minor in Data Science. He simultaneously completed a Masters in Engineering Management keeping up an outstanding academic level. Beau continued his love of golf and competed for UOP, red shirting his frosh year and playing his sophomore through his senior years. He enjoyed traveling to many tournaments and even competed in Hawaii his senior year.
Beau is now working from home (of course) for Aruba Networks based in Roseville, which is a subsidiary of the Hewlett Packard Enterprises. His job title is Software Engineer. In layman's terms his job consists of; writing computer code, creating and designing computer applications and testing product. Beau feels fortunate to be working for this big company which can provide so many future job advantages.
Finally, this young man has a dream of competing at a higher level of golf starting with qualifying for the US Amateur Tournament and maybe even playing professional tours. He spends any free time playing golf with his buddies at our local golf venues honing his skills.
We wish Beau success in all his endeavors!!!!
Bell Ringing 2020
We are so pleased to have helped the Salvation Army raise funds through our Bell Ringing. Our efforts netted the Salvation Army over $1200.00 in eight hours and we had a great time greeting everyone who walked by.
In 2015 the Nor-Cal RCA was so pleased to award our first eleven student-athlete scholarships. Well, six years later and 99 recipients, we are still going strong. We hope to stay in contact with as many of our recipients as possible. With this in mind, we are starting: “WHERE ARE THEY NOW”.

Megan Gallion
It is such a pleasure to catch up with our past scholarship recipients and 2016 recipient, Megan Gallion really shines.
Megan graduated from Fall River High School in 2016 and attended Feather River Community College for two years, receiving her Associates Degree. Megan had played Basketball, Softball and Volleyball in High School and continued with Volleyball at Feather River. While completing her first two years of college, Megan honed her skills as a setter and earned a lucrative scholarship for academics and volleyball to Division II Lees-McCrae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Although far from home, Megan’s adventurous spirit grabbed at this opportunity to explore new territory.
While at Lees-McCrae, she competed in Volleyball taking her team to playoffs for two years and receiving honors as one of the school’s Top Ten Setters. Megan graduated in May of 2020 with a degree in Biology and a Minor in Math. Before graduation, she applied to the Peace Corp and was accepted and was looking forward to going overseas to teach and immerse herself in a different culture. As with everything during the year 2020, this plan had to be put on hold and Megan came home to Fall River Mills to help in her parent’s pizza parlor and substitute teach in her home town.
The experiences that Megan has had as a substitute teacher has proven to be in valuable giving her practice in time management, classroom discipline skills and learning varied methods of teaching which will help her with the Peace Corp placement. If all goes well, Megan will be headed to Tanzania in September, 2021, where she will spend three months with a host family learning Swahili and the customs of the villages in the area. She will spend the next 24 months in service to a small community giving much needed educational help along with all other commitments required and needed. She will be far away from home and family, but her passion for new experiences and travel is strong.
It will be great to hear from Megan in the future, to learn about her exciting experiences. We Coaches are so grateful to our sponsors for the help in making scholarships available to these very deserving students.

Shelby Baccala
Shelby Baccala, now Shelby Taylor King, has been a very busy young lady since graduating from Red Bluff High School in 2015. It was great to catch up with her to find out all that she has accomplished since receiving one of our first Student-Athlete Scholarships. Shelby played four years of Softball for Red Bluff as catcher. The catcher position demands a person who can think fast, make crucial decisions and is a real team player. These skills have carried over and have helped to drive the decisions she has made the past five years.
In 2015 she headed off to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as a Bio Med major. Her goals changed and she transferred to Chico State and graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree. She will be entering the Student Teacher program this next semester to become an Elementary Teacher. Virtual and online learning may be the reality for awhile but hopefully in-person student teaching, in the classroom, will be a possibility later in the year 2021.
Shelby’s goal to become a teacher is best exemplified by her years working at Head Start with three and five year-olds. It is her passion to give youngsters the proper development emotionally and mentally which will help them succeed. She says she LOVES going to work. She works with the children and their families helping to assess the children’s needs. A couple of her responsibilities include preparing lesson plans and participating in IEP meetings for the children.
Shelby’s other passion has been her work with the Jr. Giants which is affiliated with the San Francisco Giants organization. This is a free non-competitive baseball program for boys and girls. Her involvement over the years has given her the expertise to now have a position as a Regional Ambassador overseeing ten different leagues. She is so proud of the fact that in this crazy sports environment, she has been able to help design and implement online curriculum and virtual coaching. Thinking outside the box!
Finally and most exciting, Shelby and her husband Josh became parents to Jackson who is now two months old. What a lucky little boy to have a mom with such a great background in helping young people succeed. The coaches are so pleased to have played a party in helping Shelby with her goals and now she is doing the same for others. Good Job!!!!!
Where Are They Now
Shea Bertolucci
Shea Bertolluci graduated from West Valley High School in June of 2015 and headed for UCLA with the help of both athletic and academic scholarships. She grew up in Cottonwood attending Evergreen and rode the school bus her mom, Marcy, drove. At West Valley, Shea played Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer and Track.
Shea graduated from UCLA in 2019 where she majored in Human Biology and Society. As she explains, her major includes the study of genetics and science and how people perceive science. Many classes were spent debating the issues and ethics that have arisen in the modern age of biology and medicine. During her sophomore year she had the opportunity to travel to Europe to study Physics. She has also taken a vacation trip to South East Asia.
Shea has been working for a private company in Napa, California as a Behavioral Technician for children on the Autism Spectrum. She works with individuals, from very young to teenagers, implementing prescribed plans to help assist them to navigate this world.
Shea has applied for over 20 Med schools with her goal of becoming an OB-GYN. She wants to practice in a rural community just like her hometown of Cottonwood. She feels that her many work and travel experiences will help her to be a more informed physician when working with her patients and the issues they face.
Shea is anxiously awaiting acceptance to Medical School to complete her training to reach her goal of becoming a doctor. It is great to be able to remember that the Nor-Cal RCA efforts and the efforts of this community have helped this fine young lady reach her goal!
Where Are They Now
Tucker Tompkins
Tucker Tompkins was born and raised in Redding and attended St. Josephs for elementary and U-Prep from 7th grade to graduation in 2015. He played Football, Basketball, Soccer and Track. Upon graduation he went to Greenville University in Southern Illinois to play football. Tucker player all four years of football as a receiver and was a member of the Football team’s Leadership Team. The lessons learned on and off the field have been invaluable for the career that Tucker is pursuing.
Tucker graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and then went on to Shasta College where he completed the EMT program. Now, while working as an EMT he is attending the Paramedic Program at Sacramento State. This particular program is touted as one of the best in California and he has been fortunate to be able to attend in-person classes.
For the next few months Tucker will be learning all the aspects of the job and then will be interning and finally preparing to take the testing required to become licensed as a paramedic. His goal is to become a Paramedic with the fire department and ultimately a fire investigator. With the outstanding training he is receiving, and his on-the-job experiences, his goals will become reality.
Right now his reality is working non-stop, studying and getting ready for all the tests required which include: assessing patients in various conditions, administering meds, doing IVs and even intubating if necessary. Again he feels fortunate to have in-person classes even during 2020.
Tucker’s accomplishments are due to lots of hard work and great support from his family, Dad and Mom - Jeff and Trisha, and sister Sierra. The Nor-Cal Retired Coaches Association is proud to have been a part of helping him reach his educational and future goals. Congratulations to a job well done!
Congratulations Paul Peterson!
Paul Peterson, our illustrious Nor-Cal RCA Secretary, was honored by the Shasta County Search & Rescue as the Outstanding Search and Rescue Volunteer of the Year for 2020. Paul's attention to detail and his commitment to his community makes him an integral part of not only Search & Rescue, but also the Nor-Cal RCA and we are very proud to call him our friend. Congratulations!
Chalk Talk - Summer 2020
Welcome to 2020. There is so much to say about the world around us and what has happened to this world over the past four months. Be it for me to try and explain any of it, I can't! Like almost everyone else in my situation, I sit back, look at what is going on and try to make some sense out of it. Shaking my head is usually the result. On the bright side, my family and friends have weathered the storm and have maintained some level of normalcy within our tightened-down environment.
Our new Shasta County Sheriff, Eric Magrini, was our guest speaker at our February 3rd meeting held at Tierra Oaks Golf Course. A 1993 graduate of Enterprise High School, Eric has been part of the North State Law Enforcement since 1998 beginning his career as a Red Bluff police officer. He has had many different jobs as a law enforcement officer since 1998. A few of these jobs include: Swat Team member, Dive Team member, a Detective in the Major Crimes unit and was promoted to Lieutenant assigned to County Wide Services. He served as Under-sheriff for five years before being appointed as Sheriff in December, 2019.

Jet (left) was part of the cast in Oedipus Tyrannus, a Socrates play, presented at the Axiom Repertory Theatre on Bechelli Lane. He really committed himself to his character as the shepherd by growing a beard. What a transformation! Good Job, Jet!
Chalk Talk - Fall 2019
Another summer has come and gone, along with it the sixth annual Retired Coaches Association’s Scholar-ship Golf Tournament. As with the past five, the tournament was a super success. A near full field of 140 golfers played in better than average weather, for late July, and were treated to a great meal, provided by Riverview Golf and Country Club’s excellent food and service staff.
Thank you President, Jeff Avery, for inviting us to make a presentation about the Nor-Cal Retired Coaches Association to the Redding Rotary on Thursday, July 18th at Riverview Golf & Country Club. Cheryle Thurman also gave a presentation at the Exchange Club of Redding at CR Gibbs at their June meeting. The NCRCA are so fortunate to have local businesses and groups that want to be a part of our Scholarship Fundraising.

Chalk Talk - Winter 2019
The Holidays have swept by and we are already into a new year. 2018 was quite a year, to say the least. The Nor-Cal Retired Coaches Association finished off their 5th Annual "Scholarship Golf Tournament" in great style with over 140 players braving the smoke from the Carr Fire with some outlying areas still burning.
